Yeovil Town Football and Athletic Club Limited was registered on 3rd May 1923. The season just finished had been their first in the Southern League, but they had struggled to compete at the higher level after having been crowned Western League Champions the year before. At the first board meeting of the newly formed company on the 5th May 1923 the directors appointed Jack Gregory as the club’s first manager. He was immediately successful, winning the Western Section of the Southern League in 1923/24. He was also the first of many player-managers the club employed and eventually resigned at the end of the 1927/28 season.
