Darren Way spent most of his playing career at Yeovil Town, but sadly it was ended prematurely due to a very bad car accident that nearly cost him his life. After 14 months of recovery he was appointed first team coach, and eventually first team manager.

Born in Plymouth in 1979, Way spent six years at Norwich City, but didn’t make a first team appearance. He moved to Yeovil in 2000 and made his name as a tough tackling centre midfielder, striking up a legendary partnership with then manager’s son Lee Johnson. The two were not the tallest players, but were extremely talented and hardworking, and were a huge part of the success the team enjoyed around that time. Way made a total of 274 appearances for Yeovil Town across Football League and non-league scoring 36 goals. Way left for Swansea for £150,000 in January 2006, but his time in South Wales was plagued by injury. He returned on loan to Yeovil eventually signing permanently.

At the time of his road traffic crash, the club publicly stated they would look after him, and this must have been a huge relief to him and his family as he considered his options post playing. He took the position of first team coach and also acting assistant manager for a short time, whilst also concentrating on his coaching badges. A young manager learning his trade, but is Yeovil to the core, he has given great service to this football club.
